ALPR Cameras Near Riverside County Law Enforcement

How to Confirm Official ALPR Use Riverside County

Community reports show where cameras exist, but not who operates them. To get official confirmation, submit a public records request under your state’s open records law.

1. 1Search for “[City] Police Department FOIA” or “[State] public records request” to find the correct form or email address.
2. 2Request “all contracts, invoices, or agreements with Flock Safety, Inc.” and “all ALPR data retention policies.”
3. 3Ask for “all records containing license plate [YOUR PLATE]” to see if your vehicle has been scanned.
4. 4Most agencies must respond within 10–30 business days. Follow up in writing if they miss the deadline.

California has some of the most active ALPR policy debates in the country. While there is no single statewide retention cap for ALPR data, many agencies operate under local ordinances or department policies limiting retention to 60–180 days. The California Values Act and various city-level surveillance ordinances add additional layers of oversight.
